Both my associated were feeling tired today! Me too! Three quarters of the way through the third term associated with a full moon leaves the energy levels low.
Year seven teachers level meeting with the dean. After a wet lunch time yesterday the group was reminded that their form classrooms must be open and stay open for the whole break. This was not met by universal approval as some teachers find it difficult to get down to the English area while others want time to eat their lunch in peace. Told that somehow their room must be available for the students and a buddy system may work whereby one teacher covers two classes. Two of the teachers had duty yesterday! A teacher’s job is never done!!
Crack down on incorrect uniform to take place starting with any shoes that have white soles.
Interesting to learn that when my students in year nine maths have an assessment at the end of the current unit there will be questions where all that is required is the correct answer with correct units. I had asked if they wrote a correct formula, showed correct working that, surely, they would get at least half marks. But, no, they get “a BIG fat zero”. This doesn’t make sense to me as I feel it would be far better to encourage good habits and strategies. I would rather give fewer questions with more marks each than having this pass/fail type question. In all my time teaching mathematics I have always emphasized the importance of showing your working.
Noticed a different graduation system of “stages3, 4, 5, 6 and 7” for junior students on the walls of Math10. (see photos)
I agree Gary - students showing working is important as it shows what strategy they are using and provides information for the teacher and student to identify any misunderstandings.
