Reflections on Day 1 of section at KKHS

Productive day. Given timetable by Julian Cosgrove and assigned to Associate teacher Kim Sainsbury. Joined her form class, 7SAI, for the last part of their form class time in period 1.
Followed 7SAI, and Kim, to their maths room. As is is Maths Week, Kim used her lap top to show students how to access special online activities.
She then gathered the whole class onto the floor infront of her to give them their WALT(We Are Learning To) instructions. This was new to me and it worked very well as all the students gave their full attention to Kim. There were no distractions or things for them to fiddle with. She told me the strategy works for junior classes up to year 9. It is a technique I could use while relief teaching.
Made a tentative selection of three target students from 7SAI.

Visited reception and had photo ID sheets printed for all the classes I will be working with. This will help with learning all the names of the students.

Worked with 9DRB doing statistics. Again, Kim's classroom management as impressive. She settled the class outside the SMI computer room before allocating specific places for each student to work. They will keep these places for all future lessons in this particular room. This was a quick and easy way to establish a seating plan for a class. Again something I could use for my own teaching. R, who tends to be hyperactive and less academic, she put right up the front to be next to her. He remained settled for the whole period.
Came across new terminology for teaching stats. PPDAC(Problem, Plan, Data, Analysis and Conclusion) and OSEM(Obvious, Specify, Evidence and Meaning).

Took photos of KKHS WAKA philosophy and posters in the SMI computer room.
